Overview

Embark on an 8-day advanced ice climbing journey through the frozen landscapes of Ladakh. From the base in Leh (3,500 m), you’ll explore diverse valleys known for their spectacular natural and man-made ice walls. This intensive course is designed to enhance your skills in technical ice climbing, anchor building, lead techniques, and rescue systems — all under the guidance of certified professional mountain guides. Whether you are an aspiring ice climber or a seasoned alpinist refining your skills, this course will strengthen your ability to move efficiently and safely on steep ice terrains.

Detailed Itinerary:

• Arrival & Transfer: Pick-up from Leh Airport and transfer to hotel.
• Altitude Acclimatization: Full rest day to adapt to Leh’s high altitude.
• Preparation: Course briefing and equipment check.
• Overnight: Hotel in Leh.

• Morning Session: Introduction to ice climbing gear and rope systems.
• Rope Work Practice: Learn essential knots and belay setups.
• Afternoon: Short acclimatization hike and ice wall familiarization at Ganglas Ice Wall.
• Overnight: Hotel in Leh.

Training Focus:
• Fundamental knots and rope management.
• Tool placement, body positioning, Ice screw placements and footwork.
• Safe belay techniques and partner communication.
• Climbing Practice: Full day of top-rope climbing on varied ice routes.
• Overnight: Hotel in Leh.

• Anchor configurations.
• V-thread anchor setup, anchor cleaning and safe rappel systems.
• Application of lead climbing, lead climbing techniques and risk management.
• Practical Session: Full-day climbing and anchor setup practice.

• Morning Drive: Scenic journey along the Zanskar frozen river and across the famous zanskar river (Chadar) route to Tsogsti Ice Fall.
• Climbing rescue setup, tandem rappel techniques. • Rescue knots, victim lowering systems 1:1/2
• Top rope climbing.
• Evening Transfer: Drive (~2 hrs) along the Indus River to Khaltse Village
• Overnight: GH/Homestay in khaltse.

• Morning: Drive to Zarthang followed by a short hike (25 min) to the natural ice fall.
• Climbing Session: Scale 30-meter natural ice formations and experience varied textures.
• Full-Day Climb: Natural ice wall climbing in a narrow gorge near Tsogsti Village.
• Evening Transfer: Drive (~2 hrs) along the Indus River to Khaltse Village.
• Overnight: Cozy GH/homestay in Khaltse.

• Morning: Drive to Zarthang followed by a short hike (25 min) to the natural ice fall.
• Climbing Session: Scale 30-meter natural ice formations and experience varied textures.
• Skill Enhancement: Final day of climbing – refine and consolidate all learned
techniques.
• Evening Drive: Return to Leh (~3 hrs).
• Overnight: Hotel in Leh.
